DV2000 - monitor not coming on

i have a hp pavilion dv2000 laptop but the screen is not coming on...i power it up all the lights on it comes on but nothing shows up on the screen...what can be causeing this problem

Shhhhhh .. not too loud

No noise, no beep? Have you tried hooking up an external monitor?

lol..no i haven't..how do i go about doing that am preety new to the computer scene..an yes i do hear noise frm where the cd is go in to

Having noises is always a good sign. Borrow someone's display that can be plugged onto your VGA port. At start try the FN key to toggle the screen back and forth and see.

ok...i hooked it up to my desktop monitor an turned on the laptop an pressed the fn key liike you said but nothing came up on the big monitor

The FN and another F key to toggle? FN+F4 or FN+F7, I am not sure which.

You held down the FN key and hit the F4 (I think)?

NO, just hold the FN key whilst pressing the other.

ok...something strange just happened just now when i turned on the laptop the screen came this time an loaded up to the welcome screen but went black again.

Nice going. Well, at least we know now that your comp is working. So, my wild guess is that either:

. the inverter is gone (cheap and easy to replace) or

. the lcd cable or

. the backlights (a bit more work and sometimes not worth it) or

. the screen itself.

Time to tinker?

any ideas to why this is happening..i was wondering if this caould be caused by the laptop overheating cause i notice that it gets really hot at the bottom

Anything can happen. Parts break down when they feel like it. You might want to elevate the notebook in the future for better airflow.

ok cool..i updated the bios an it seems not be running so hot as it was doing last night n turning off...am hoping that was the fix i needed,cause man this laptop was running extremeely hot..

well i guess updating the bios didn't work it still shuts down when it gets hot.
