Inspiron 6400 Screen problems

Hi, I have an Inspiron 6400 and recently a white line appeared on the screen. I took it to a repair shop and they said that the monitor needs to be replaced.
So firstly I would like to know if it is possible to fix it without changing the screen, mainly because it is close to impossible finding a WSXGA screen in the country where I am staying now.

And secondly I want to know if it is normal for something like this to happen after 3 years of use. There was no damage to the laptop, no hits, etc. The white line just appeared three days ago while I was working.

I'm asking all this stupid questions, because I am trying to decide whether I should repair the laptop, or just scrap it and buy a new one.

. I would first try with an external monitor, just be sure that it is a screen issue and not the graphic card.

. And once the screen goes bad, it needs replacing. Try looking for a used or refurbished LCD?

cheers ...

Connecting the laptop to an external monitor was the first thing I did. It is definately an LCD problem. At the shop they installed a new LCD and it worked quite well, the only problem was that it was WXGA instead of WSXGA so the resolutions were different.

I am. Just wondering, is it normal that after 3 years the lid is kind of loose?

LCD displays fail. 3 years is probably not too bad, but some may last much longer.

Really depends on usage etc.

There have been noted flaws with some models such as the 17 inch screen on the Inspiron 9300 laptop.

I have not heard of anything in aprticular to your model having issues with the display, you cna always try searching the internet for known issues.

I have a 6400 myself, and have not had any problems so far. it around 3 years old now.
