Need Help, Installing XP in Compaq CQ60 100EE

Thread Starter
hi friends,
my laptop CQ60-100EE is build for Vista OS only..
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/p...22/loc:0&cc=nz
I tried to install Windows XP sp3 in it.. since the dvd-drive of CQ60-100EE had problems, i removed the Hard disk > fixed it in my other laptop and installed XP > then fixed the HDD back to CQ60-100EE..
now when i switched on the laptop, a blue screen appears after Windows XP boot screen.. and then the laptop restarts.. (the blue screen appears just for a fraction of second..) , the laptop starts normally in SAFE MODE.. no blue screen appears while it is starting in safe mode..
Also i have difficulty in finding XP drivers for CQ60-100EE..
Please help..!

with regards..

See if you can first disable AHCI or SATA support in your BIOS.

hi qhn..
there is no such option to disable AHCI or SATA support in my BIOS..
the only thing i can change in BIOS is Boot Order.. :-(

I think qhn has the issue at hand. XP does not support AHCI native. Consider?

You might want to read this thread for your audio issue:

Also, would you share the links as to where you got all the drivers for other members?

i managed to install xp sp3 with your help on my cq60-300, thank you. i wanna ask, how is your battery life on xp ? and is there anything that can be done to improve it ?
also, the incorporated microphone isn't working. any ideas ?

Are you able to "talk" with an external microphone?

i don't have an external mic. in vista i just used the integrated one to make skype calls, and now it doesn't seem to work. i installed asio4all driver when on vista and in the control panel of asio, i had several ins and outs. now with xp, asio shows just 2: 'conexant in' and 'conexant out'. windows device manager shows no problems
i have xp professional sp3

I am not familiar with asio4all, but how about just (try) use the stock audio driver as mentioned above with XP and removing asio4all?

Interesting...?

mabr786, if I may ask, how did you finally manage to change the bios settings, if that's how you managed to install XP? I'm having the same trouble with a CQ50-209WM, you see.
Previous hard drive crashed, installed a new one and attempted to install XP instead of its factory-installed Vista. Now I can't find the right place to change the HDD settings in the bios.
A point in the right direction would be appreciated!
