T60 fan

Thread Starter
I have a T60 and my fan has been extremely noisy and the cpu has been getting really hot lately. Opened everything up, cleaned out all of the dust, which helped, but while i had it apart it got me thinking. Disassembled the heatsink to pull the fan out and i've been wondering if i could replace the fan with a higher cfm unit.

Measured everything and it appears to be a 50mm fan with around a 7 - 10 mm thickness. only bad news is it is pretty much permanently connected to the mounting bracket instead of a nut or screw and has a very small connector (see below).

But in the interest of curiosity i ordered a couple of 50 x 10mm fans thinking that i can shave them down a bit if they are too thick. The only thing i can't seem to find is that little connector seen in the pic above. Shown with it is a standard 3-pin fan connector for size comparison. So what i am looking for is if anyone knows which kind/size of connector that is and where i can get one (link?). I would rather not cut the stock fan up just in case it doesnt all work out.

Lastly, these are 5V fans correct???

TIA

Based on the thermal device and fan spec it is 5V DC and 0.24A

Looking like a snap-in connector, take a better pic and measurement of the OEM and try some electronic stores (Radio Shack?)

cheers ...

dont you have any extra 3 pins?
do remember this can be little risky. it can possibly "burn out" circuits etc from high voltage.
