Alienware M17x Processor upgrade from duo to quad

I thought I would post this in general laptop as it could possibly relate to any laptop/notebook.

I have just ordered the new M17x with a duo core 2 T9600 processor as the jump in price to quad core was too much for me right now.

What I would like to know is, will it be possible to buy the parts and book a Dell engineer to upgrade my processor to a quad core in the future? (At a price of course). Is this service available?

If this is possible, I imagine it would be a processor & motherboard upgrade? Would any other components need to be changed?

Yes this is possible. You can even do it yourself. It's not too difficult to swap CPUS.

Just the proc will need to be change but Dell will sell you a refurbished proc for double the price. Most of the upgradable parts are actually prices reasonably through Dell, just not the procs. I called to see what a x9100 costs and they told me $2K.

So unless you're OK with buying off of eBay it would be best to get the proc upfront.

Yes, that is correct, you can upgrade the processor to quad core in the future.
