Faulty A6VM

I'd be grateful if anyone could help with this problem:-

My A6000 VM series notebook has recently been having some problems on start-up. When powered on the laptop turns on but does not start up. All four hotkey lights become illuminated, and remain illuminated but the laptop does not start up.

Re-starting does not change this, and the same occurs. I have left the notebook running until the battery is flat and it does not go any further than turning on. However, after running the battery flat once, it turned on as normal. Other times it suddenly starts up as normal after several attempts at re-starts.

What could this be? What would fix this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to NBF,

Try removing the battery and starting it with just the AC adapter plugged in.

Hi,

I have tried this as well and the same problem occurs. I initially thought it was a fault with the battery as well.

What kind of graphics is used with this notebook? And how long have you had it?

nVIDIA GEFORCE GO 7300 graphics. I have had the notebook coming up to about 3 years.

Yeh, three years seems to be the industry limit for these types of graphic cards. There may not be much you can do aside from sending it for repair. I'm not even sure you can remove this graphics card yourself if you wanted to.

Doesn't sound too good. My warranty has expired and don't really want to spend money on repairs. What makes you think this is related to the graphics card?

The fact that you don't have video is a big sign that it may be GPU related. You may want to try replacing the RAM, or booting with 1 dimm. and swapping the stick. Also if you notebook has a video output port, like VGA or DVI, try hooking it up to an external monitor to see any warnings or errors.

A similar thing happened to my Area-51m. Just got it back with a brand new GPU. Although it was also restarting while I was using it, and I saw some spotty video which lead me to believe it was GPU related.
