asus G71GX-RX05 (bestbuy) any issues?

Thread Starter
I have been looking at the asus G71GX-RX05 from bestbuy.

I noticed some heat issues (something like 82c, drops fps to around 2)
I have read about a bios update that came out July 7th, does anyone know if this update solved the problem?
Also, have you heard/had any other issues with this notebook?

Heat issue is always around with any models/brands. I would not take this heat-related (if any) seriously - really!

cheers ...

DON'T listen to the last poster. Yes some laptops have heat issues. As for those I would not bother. This laptop does have a video issue out of the box. The BIOS upgrade will do the trick. After that just don't put it on your lap and all will be good. I have one of these bad boys and love every second of it.

85-95C is considered normal for the G51s and G71s.

I can only think "it's better to burnout, than to fade away".

Cooling pad and that Diamond TC.

I made my own kickass cooler and applied arctic mc-3 compound.

Nice set up.

Just out of curiosity, would it be better to blow the air sideways, underneath the notebook, rather than straight back up to the vents below?

cheers ...

The fan underneath the CPU/gpu cooling fan is powered by a USB so it runs on low, basically just there to provide fresh air to the systems fan. The other 2 rush air straight up to the gpu heatsiink and the chipset heatsink. I blow it straight up because since I put the hole where the system fan is, the remote underpanel vents are not used to draw air. Air is only drawn through the whole now so I wanted to blow air into the gpu and CPU area to compensate and it did more than well lol. Gpu temps when overclocked running 3dmark dropped from 92c off cooler to 79c on cooler

That makes sense then.

Yea but cooling this laptop is too much work, thinking about switching to an m15x

just don't throw this cooler set-up out just yet.

cheers ...

no no never! I have some left over pressed wood and plexiglass so when I do decide to dip in for an m15x, I can cut the new platform out to meet the fans of the laptop.

the M15X has had heating issues in the past, so if you get one, your kit will still likely be useful. Although maybe the new motherboard for the Core i7 processors will have addressed that.

LMAO dude the m15x R2 is a completely redesigned cooling system from what I have seen. It is based on the same cooling from the m17x R2. The R2 gets temps on sli 260ms of about 79C high load. M15x should be about the same.
