m9700 overheat (tried AS5)

well my m9700 has been overheating for a year or two. i pretty much always just dealt with it. i usually just take the bottom off and have my cooling pad blow right into it in an air conditioned room... that keeps it from getting too bad when i game. recently, i decided to try applying AS5. i followed the guide that's provided in the forums but it hasn't really made a difference. if i go on a flash game like pandemic and just leave it idling on the start screen, my computer will pass 90 and sometimes freeze up. that's with a cooling pad. anyone who has other suggestions let me know please. in the meantime i guess i'll just keep running it and hope that the AS5 sets in better and starts to show some results.

Well you've done both steps I was going to suggest. Cooling pad and AS5. It's possible your GPU is already damaged past the point of saving. Have you looked online or a replacement?

The GPU? it's the cpu that's hitting those temps. i haven't looked for a replacement. i want to see if the AS5 starts kicking in, i know it can take a week or two of running to really set it in place. we'll see. I guess the CPU could be damaged from the heat, i really wouldn't know much about it... i don't think so because as long as it stays cool it's fine. before i had a fan in front of the ac blowing full blast cold air at my computer and when i had that going on it worked perfectly, so i don't think it's damaged. it's just really not keeping itself cool like it should. that's why i want to look into maybe replacing the fans. i don't suppose there are more powerful ones that would fit in the m9700?

I am having the same problem with my m5500. The system will shut down after about an hours' use, and I am going to try the AS5 route as I have not done so yet.

Ok new info... Its the damn power source. When its not plugged in it stays around 62 degrees. Problem is, as any of you know, the battery on that monster is just for show. You can get maybe 20 mins of use before it runs dry. Other problem being that when its not plugged in it wont run at full power even with nhc. It forces itself into power save mode. So is there any way to keep it plugged in without the power source overheating it? Maybe a different one they sell that stays cooler? Let me know if you have any ideas.
