Problem with Asus G50-vt

Thread Starter
Hi everyone;

I was wondering if there was something wrong with my laptop. The specs are listed below:

ASUS G50vt
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 @ 2.1 Ghz
4 GB of Ram
320 GB HDD
and it SAYS a Nvidia geforce 9800m gs chip with 512mb of dedicated memory

The only problem is that in dxdiag and some games i play, it shows the chip as a nvidia 9800m gt chip. Is this a driver error, or did Asus just put a 9800m gt chip in and underclock it due to heat issues?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

It is not a problem. It is a blessing in disguise ;-) Enjoy your machine.

Thank you for the help and I am glad to see that it is not a problem. Is it possible to upgrade the processor in these machines? It seems like the cpu is the only thing holding it back from a 5.8 experience index score on my computer.

Sure you can upgrade the CPU. I am looking for a P9600 myself just to keep it in the heat range.

Guys on this whole GS/GT thing I know I am late to it and qhn I did read your link. In GPU-Z 3rd down on the left, "Technology" what does it say? Also what is your 3DMark06 score on default composite? SM 2.0, SM 3.0 and CPU? That could tell us what it really is.

I'll get this and shoot over to the relative. The comp is in TX, and I am in Hamburg at the moment.

Would this do?

under technology it says 45nm. as for the 3dmark score, i am downloading the program now. I will post when i get it.

OK guys here is what I was thinking. For you Brits I thought I had a Sherlock Holmes moment. The GT is 65nm and the GS is 55nm. Well reporting 45nm destroyed my stroke of genius. The 3DMark scores will only help me infer what it has. Not precise as what I had hoped for. But at this point give it to me. Also GPU-Z just released an update. See if that tells us more?

3DMark Score: 8431
SM 2.0 Score: 3912
SM 3.0 Score: 3948
CPU Score: 1869

It appears i need a more powerful CPU lol.

hum

like i asked in the other thread... which nvidia driver are you using? what were the "personal" reviews using?

For example, btoforum.com was the A2 listed as also having GT, when in reality it was the GS, just like the sticker said. The issue cleared up once you install a newer driver (not from Asus, but from nvidia).

Read my signature....Surprisingly with the overclocking past 9800m gts flashed clocks and the x9100 bumped to 3.451, the temps for the cpu never pass 58C and the Gpu never passes 86C... I'm on a zalman nc-2000 cooler also with a custom hole an inch and a half in diameter i drilled out where the fan is.

It really is a wonderful machine for the price. I paid 970 for mine with tax and got a machine better than my friends 1500 dollar dell.

In a way, I'm actually jealous of the folks that get to buy the newer model, G51Vx.

Better GPU, option for faster CPU (QUAD CORE!!!)... redesigned chassis... and it's cheaper than the $1,800 I paid (back in Jan '09).

I guess I can't really complain, I bought the A2 model after all. =.=

I bought it from Newegg, so it wasn't customized. Trying to figure out if I can pop in a quad core...
