Problem with newly installed memory?

Thread Starter
Ok, so I did like most people apparently have done and ordered my XPS system with the minimum 512 Meg of memory and have ordered a gig of third party memory (two GEIL "golden dragon" ddr400 so-dimms). I know what you're thinking, why the heck did I get that shoddy GEIL memory right? Well, I didn't see the thread where somebody (Dell-Machina I think) said many people have had problems with it before I had already ordered it. I just received the memory yesterday and figured I may as well try it since it is possible that it could work fine. Well, I removed the two Dell 256 meg sticks and replaced them with the two GEIL 512 meg sticks being very careful the entire time about static and how I was handling the memory. When I went to turn the system back on here is what happened:

--power LED lit up
--LCD display did not "light up" and nothing appeared on the display
--the system fans did not turn on at all
--the numlock and capslock lights blinked on and off over and over

And it would just sit there like that forever. No boot up or any apparent system activity. Just the numlock and caps lock lights blinking on and off. Is this what other people have experienced with GEIL memory in particular or does anybody recognize this behavior as a more general system problem of some type? Since I am able to put the original Dell memory back in and have the system operate and boot up normally again that must mean something is wrong with the memory, right? I very much appreciate the help that anyone may be able to provide with this.

If you want some decent memory that will actually work I have 2 512MB Samsung dimms for sale that are guaranteed to work.

Email me if you want it.

It was actually started by someone like yourself inquiring about memory purchasing and I just added that so far most people if not all who bought Geils could not get it to work fully or at all on there XPS/9100 systems. You should return the geils and get Kingmax, Crucial, Samsung ram for your new power monster
