T6400 vs T7300 on a Dell D630...vista x64

Thread Starter
I have a D630 running vista basic x64, 4gb ram, 500gb drive and currently have a T7300. On specs it seems like the T7300 07' & T6400 09' are basicly the same. I'd like to know if there is any reason to make a change since I have one available. Thanks.

typically the newer chipsets are a smaller die, Use less power, and are usually more efficient - thus run faster.

They may also have a faster front side buss, which would be nice if the chipset supports it.

T7300 Clocks in at 2Ghz with 4MB of Cache and runs at 1.0375 - 1.3 volts and finally it has a TDP of 34W.

T6400 also clocks in at 2Ghz however with half as much L2 cache at 2MB the flipside being that it runs on a lower voltage of 1.0 - 1.25 volts. The TDP is 35Ws making this model in theory run hotter than your T7300 however the difference in 2 years of manufacturing may allow you to under volt this CPU to get better voltage rates. For example I use a X9100 Cpu which runts at a blister 3.067Ghz which demands as much as 1.38 Volts but using software such as RightMark CPU it sits happily at 1.050vs dropping a whole 20 degrees C in temps. Between the 2 I would rock the T6400.

So the only advantage to the T6400 is a lower temp. What does rightmark cpu do? How does it work?

RMclock (Right Mark Clock) is a tool that allows you to monitor and control voltage consumption on your notebook. You can manually adjust your voltage settings to lower the overall usage of power while maintaing the current speed. What this means is you will see increased battery life and lower temperatures while using the software.
