Hard drive works in armada 1700 but not in it's original notebook?

hey guys. newb here. I have an Averatec 6200 series (got it from my grandpa when he died so stop the flames!) and i just recently put a new ac jack and keyboard on it. While i was waiting for that stuff to come in the mail i took it's 80gb hard drive out and put it in my old compaq armada 1700 and reformatted it and it works fine. however, after i made the repairs to the averatec i swapped the hard drive back over, and all i get is a blue screen of death. i decided to re-format the averatec. Mind you the averatec is the notebook in which the hard drive belongs. So i put my xp disc in and it just keeps going to the bSoD. I go to the bios but it doesn't have the cd drive as a bootable option, just the hard drive and some sony undi thing. Can anyone help?

Try these peoples and see if you can dig up a BIOS for your model. If not, mail them.

Is it just that combinaton of hard drive/laptop, or will no hard drives whatsoever work in it? I once had a Toshiba that had loose cables, and on occasion would not recognize the hard drive on startup.
I am thinking this is more a problem with hardware than bios or anything else as it happened after you swapped it out. Perhaps you need new IDE cables as well(do laptops have IDE cables?).
