Wacom Tablets Question!!

Do you have to use the pen and mouse on the tablet to enable it to work? If that is the case, is there any pen that can be used on flat surfaces without the use of a tablet or "special" paper?

The last time I played with a waco tablet the pen had to be used on the tablet it self. Sensors read the X/Y position of the pen tip, then you have the buttons on the pen that are independant of the tablet. As to the rest of your question I haven't looked into it.

Yes, you must use their mouse and pen on the tablet, as the tablet detects their presnce (that's why there's no batteries in the pen and mouse).

And remember, there's no "sliding" like a regular mouse. If you want to "be" in a spot, just touch there. It takes some getting used to.

You can still use the regular mouse while using the tablet, too.

In WinXP, does the Wacom tablet give the user functions similar to a tablet pc/convertible?

Yes and no. Yes, it's like a tablet PC in that wherever you touch the stylus is where the cursor will be, but it's not a good comparison, because the tabletPC is more like a giant PDA with instant feedback (i.e. easier to use initially).

The tablet takes some practice to get the feel down.
