i still dont understand dell must know that people are using their warranties all the time.... why would they possibly put themselves in a situation like this. how many people are honestly falling for going for the 16 inch???? and they also must know the failure rate of this laptop is increasing and its at its highest defective rate right now when they discontinue the 1730.... i dont get it.

most people get the standard 1 year warranty, and most people dont question the xps 16 "upgrade", we are the minority

hi long time lurker
i wont bore you with details but customer relations agreed to replace my dead m1730 because of me waiting over a month for the 8800m gfx cards . anyway they just sent me the pdf of the replacement system and lo and behold they are trying to give me a 8700M GT SLI in replacement .
I phoned up and said i would not accept this and they are calling me back . Is it time i ask for a m17X ? btw im in the UK which still lists the m1730 but only with the 8700m.
thanks

If your comp came with the 8800, it should be replaced with at least the same or better. It should not be matter if the "current" model is being offered only with the 8700.

Time to push the button.

cheers ...

This thread got so thread-jacked..oh well

Anyways, I checked my status on my laptop that's getting system-exchanged and apparently it was canceled..not sure why, I've got to call tomorrow, but its BS; they said it was due to "account problems".

Never late on a payment, weird

Anyone have any ideas on what happened?

i dont know what it is, i couldn't get a hold of anyone about the hold thing

it sounds like it is permanent. they asked me to send my computer to depot again to fix what the last depot stay caused...

well i wold almost suggest if they are not going to replace it, and just put the 880 cards in, to sell it ASAP and buy the AW if all else fails that is.

i`m one here

well i`m back to square one
my replacement m1730 has been cancelled due to the fact they were trying to get me to have an 8700 card to tide me over and my original service call has been reinstated. I was told in no circumstances i would get a m17x then they hung up on me . It is now over 5 weeks since my cards fried and im getting nowhere . Is there any more action i can take?
Sure, keep pounding on them. Escalate to a supervisor. Don't dwell on the m17X, but pushing for equal specs for replacement - then you might get the m17X

cheers ...

thanks for the advice my problem is it was escalated and the supervisor promised i would get a replacement of equal or better which they didn't do. Basically they are now saying its tough and i`ll just have to wait for a replacement card . He seemed to have great joy in telling me this would be a very long time as nvidia are not fulfilling their commitment. ?

There is a limit of how long of a wait for a replacement part. I would push it hard, taking them to small claim court if you have to.

They are the seller, not nVidia!

cheers ...
