well first off the whole time i was waiting for them to get the dispatch number i never once asked for an alienware laptop replacement. an when i got the dispatch and order number it was an alienware m17x.

so here's what i need to know from you guys cause i never did a replacement due to damage from my m1730.

since they have already sent the replacement, gave me a fedex tracking number and order number. can i call they or go online an ask for the service tag number? thanks all

OK, UPDATE!

After getting a lawyer and them seeing this thread, {assumabley} my escalation manager called me back today and told me he is going to process the system exchange, for an m17x, got it recorded and everything!

This is the same guy that REFUSED to do anything about my case. This is after corporate called me and refused to do anything, so i got michael's dell email and fowarded everything to him as well as haveing my lawyer call their law office.

all said and done , He told me it could take up to a month. Once it gets here, ill post a benchmark on it for windows xp, vista, vista 64 bit, and windows 7.

Apprently hireing a lawyer made them see i was not bluffing, and i supplied all of my recorded conversations.

But lets not count the mice before their born, we shall see if they carry through..

Mine is actually 2.4Ghz too, we can overclock our processors and I plan on OCing mine to 2.8 when I get it.

make sure that you get the WUXGA screen and not the WXGA screen... the latter is the crappy resolution...

This is second hand info, I wouldn't know because my replacement for my replacement has not been shipped.

It is a fact that they are only equipped with GDDR3 memory

in fact Dells been changing peoples orders - quietly from DDR5 to DDR3 in the descriptions

so how safe is the overclocking? i never did that before.

If you have never done overclocking, i suggest you do not start on a laptop, oerclocking if done right requires sanding core die's down, and heatsinks, changeing thermal paste, sometimes even swapping heatsinks on the hardwar aspect. on the software aspect, some card's or bios'es you have to flash with binary files, seeing as how dell doesnt like to unlock everything on your hardware, you will have to change registry entries, change drivers out a bunch..

In short it requires alot of tweaking, and if you havent done it with a spare desktop or read up on it, i suggest you do not do it, however if you want to, Google is your best friend God only knows i found out how to water cool the xps m1730 from a google search. NOT an easy task.

wow you water cooled an m1730. awesome. i think ill stick with factory settings on mine since i never overclocked. i may read up on it just for fun. thanks for your help

We aren't talking major OCing here. U can oc the m17x via bios. If done right it won't damage your machine. If Mandrake can chime in, he can explain it better.

i did it once, raised my temps in my m1710 and burned out the processor..twice
