Venting about Dell and my laptop - Page 17

Wow guys, I take some time off to focus on real life and I come back to find that everyone's M1730's are dying. However it doesn't entirely surprise me that the 8800's are the culprit. Seems like nVidia made a host of bum 8800 series GPUs. I've found many people on other boards with 8800 DESKTOP cards with issues. Heck I had an 8800GTX from eVGA die and eVGA ended up replacing the card with 9800 GTX....unfortunately such a swap is difficult to make possible on a laptop with no standardized parts.

What Dell needs to be doing is getting you guys replacement systems ASAP and then going after nVidia for foisting garbage on them.

Like I said, it's not a problem that's exclusive to Dell, or even laptops for that matter. A friend of mine in Houston had the 7900GS in his Toshiba die and it's currently sitting in a Best Buy service depot. (You think Dell's runaround is bad, back when I worked at Best Buy there was no way to replace a customer's laptop if a part was backordered and management wouldn't budge at all).

i wouldnt be so upset about the issue, but dell just treats me like a retarded retard...

7 gpus, getting the 8th in depot now. just ridiculous...

They also offered me the XPS Studio 16, which was had alot of upgrades but I called them and told them that the screen was smaller, that I had dual video cards with SLi and that what they were trying to send me wasn't a gaming system. Two days later they cancelled that order and ordered the Alienware for me, it is in production but no ETA on the system.

After 2 weeks in production and supposed to ship today my dell exchange was cancelled, now I have to wait for Dell to call me back and tell me why it was cancelled and get it ordered again.

dude im sorry about that. could be anything like maybe they are upgrading or changing something but if they try and pull some sh*t like giving you a xps studio 16" make sure they know that's some sh*t.

tell them you had a gaming dell laptop and you will get a gaming laptop if that's what you had. 17" gaming laptop for 17" gaming laptop only new now a refurb. not sure what you had an also call them demand to know why they canceled your order or replacement. never wait on them i tried that and almost got screwed out of everything.

so i called every night and keep notes also have them send an email every time print them out too. i have a stack about a 1"+.

ok talked to my case worker Shane(she a girl) this has been in september said she would call me tuesday which i had the phone all day so she calls and it had on the screen 1. accept call, i didnt get a chance to read the rest. got a voice mail. said were still working on a dessision to fix or replace(about 2 weeks earlier she said it was none fixable ( an they started building my new laptop replacement on the 11th September) an she would call me. then the next week she called and said they stopped working on it an were gonna repair or replace.

which brings us back to the tuesday call that i missed but got a voice mail. she stated nothing has changed but no reason for you to call , ill call you saturday 16th september 2009 and was very firm on not calling she said it like 4 or 5 times in the voice mail.

longer story short im very peranoid an keep thinking why did she say not to call.

so on friday september 15th 2009 at like 10pm i called. got benjie who told me they had shipped my laptop to me on the 15th fedex. i asked do you have a tracking number. he gave me the tracking number (which i tracked an it turned out it went to lervange, tn another dell facilty.

the following monday she called me and asked did you get you damaged laptop today? i said no it's in lavergne, tn. she said how did you get that tracking number. i ended the convo and had her took off my case.

see mine was a system exchange so without me calling friday the 15th an getting the tracking number i had no idea where it was an when they sent my replacement for exchange i wouldn't have it or a tracking number to where it really was. an would have to pay for the alienware m17x but i called and gave them the tracking an all is great.

don't let dell F U because they will try.

i hope this helps bro

don't let the screw you. if you got dell complete care warranty and you accidently dropped an damaged the laptop. they will give you an alienware m17x if you keep on them. don't wait on them and be firm with them. like tell them i didn't but complete warranty to not use it if i needed to. so i have it an you will accidently damaged 17" gaming laptop with a new 17" gaming laptop. keep calling dont stopgive them hell.
yeah, i don't think they are doing the alienware thing anymore. doesn't make sence though, they are giving refunds which many times equal or exceed the price of the alienware replacements... i suspect that's why so many are being canceled, dell will probably just end up doing the refund thing. dell is very shadey lately...

the same or better is a farce nowadays at dell, they dont care at all

They already offered me the Studio XPS 16, I told them that what they were offering me wasn't a gaming system, the screen was smaller and that I had dual video cards with SLi, the system was switched to the Alienware and now cancelled. I have been trying to get through to them for over an hour, was transferred to several different reps and now on hold for who knows how long.

man i got transfered so many time too. but this is the best time of the day to call. just tell it states in the dell complete care warranty this "

2. Scope of Services:
a. Repair and Replacement Service. During the term of this Agreement and subject to the limitations
in this Agreement, we will repair or replace the Computer Device as necessary to correct any
damage to the Computer Device which occurs during the usual and customary usage of the
Computer Device because:
• An electrical surge damages the Computer Device’s internal circuitry, or
• You accidentally drop the Computer Device (in the case of Notebooks and/or Peripherals) or
the Computer Device is otherwise accidentally damaged from handling including damage to:
• The keyboard if you spill liquid.
• The LCD/monitor cracks or shatters in extreme temperatures.
If we repair your Computer Device, you understand and agree that we may replace original parts
with new or used parts from the original manufacturer, or a different one. Replacement parts will be
functionally equivalent to the original parts. In our discretion, we may designate an affiliated
company or contract with a third party to complete repairs on the Computer Device.
If we decide that it is necessary to replace the Computer Device rather than repair it, you will
receive a Computer Device equivalent to or better than the Computer Device you originally
purchased from us."

so they have to or you sue the sh*t out of them. an let them know that. so people are so easy (not meaning you) but some people will just settle for a refund or a lesser replacement.

did you see anything about a refund or a computer device of lesser or even lower than your computer device.

man i wish you the best of luck bro!!!

No refund was offered, but they did try to exchange it for the XPS studio 16 but I told them that it was not the same or better as the XPS M1730 notebook so then they did change it to the Alienware and it was in production for 2 weeks than cancelled last night. I am in Canada so I had to talk with a Canadian rep which after an hour I was transferred to so she went through the configuration with me as she said she had the green light to proceed now I have a new dispatch number and hopefully an order number soon.

that says they can't. so i think if a person really wants one to just keep on them an they will come through. i myself had to wait right at 2 months then it was in my hand.

i will say this to anyone that has one (Alienware M17x in production). when it's in your hands you got it but don't get to excited until it is. good luck to all

what they give stock is Alienware Windows Vista Home Prem. 64Bit with a Alienware recovery disc with drivers and programs. you will have Alienrespawn v2.0 on a hidden partition. so every time you start it up after the boot up screen you will see a on the top left area i think something like "to run alienrespawn v2.0 press F10. i lost mine an have been trying to get it back with no luck

hey if by some change if they send you a alienrespawn v2.0 kit (2 discs) can i please borrow them?. that way it will have it back on my hard drive. they have a fix for windows 7 but the partition is gone now. if you can ill get them back to you usps priority 2-3 days. I just need it back on the hard drive.

it's a windows 7 home prem. 64bit upgrade coupon kit. very easy to do an i got mine in less than a week. I'll be so glad to welcome you to the strange world call ALIENWARE once its in your hands. my emails are:
