I wonder what that means for my 8800 that I was promised to be installed on my laptop, dispatch number and all.

This is the conspiracy theorist in me, but maybe your laptop never existed? They just promised you an imaginary laptop to get you off their backs for a while, and now you're gonna have to run the gauntlet again and they are hoping you'll just give up.

Probably not but I wouldn't put it past Dell now-a-days... lol.
They are going to have to think of something, they don't sell the 1730's anymore. If Nvidia is not delivering any more 8800's, how is Dell going to honor there warranties?

Hope no one claims anything???

They have Refurbs most lilely

not sure they would offer a Alienware laptop

Typically the refurbish they offer are available on the Dell Outlet. The Dell outlet has been out of 1730's for a long while.

Not saying I think we'll get the alienware. In all honestly, I would settle for less and a little cash back, like that's going to happen....

dell has already started replacing 1730's with m17's. it is a trickle right now but will be the normal thing to do in 6 months to a year.

Why do I feel like I'm getting jipped? I've looked through it all, the processor they're sending me is suppose to be clocked 200MHz than the last one and helps with battery life, it's the same graphics card and I get 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB of ram, and a bigger hard drive.

Why such the huge difference in price?

Dell's inventory pricing system fluctuates by the minute. I would complain and have them install the 8800 at build, because if you have issues later (and you will) they'll pull some bull crap about what the system was originally built as.

I already have a service request number for an 8800 I had spoken to a rep and his manager before they lost my first 1730, he agreed they would send me am 8800 after I receive my laptop.

The new one is a slight downgrade but not much as you can see. You're also not getting an AEGIA Physx card with this one. Other than that, I don't see much missing.

Those sonsabitches.

I'm calling them; the CPU I don't really care about because its a .1GHz difference, but I want the physx card.

Yay win! The rep I spoke to was an idiot, it showed me the page of my old 1730 order that got lost, and he tried to tell me there wasn't a PhysX card in it, so I just copy and pasted it into the chat session and he's like oh....give me one moment to speak to my supervisor.

So I wait..
alala...
lalalala...

He's going to try to get them to add the PhysX card into the laptop, if that doesn't work they'll send a tech with the parts to intall it.

Win.

I see that the venting out helps ;-)

Congrats on the good new.

cheers ...

NIIICE! Now go out there and enjoy the brick. One thing to be weary is that the size of the m1730 means it'll be pretty much deskbound.

Oh I know, I had the gen 2 and the m1710. I rarely move it, and if I do it's for lan parties.

Yay, I should be getting the beast tomorrow FedEx has the package
post #57 of 362
so did you get it yet?
Thread Starter
Yes
And I see why they call it the beast.

Dell technician came and installed the PhysX card, now I'm just waiting to get the 8800GTX.

Something odd though, dell gave me vista ultimate x86(32 bit) but I have 4 gigs of RAM...so........

you do the math

Anyways I'm gonna contact them tomorrow to get Vista x64, but currently I'm using Win7 and loving it, everything seems to work so far.

Question for anyone if they know; since I have a dedicated PhysX card, do I just enable it by going into the nVidia Control Panel then choosing "Set GPU PhysX Acceleration"? Or is there some dedicated program or area of the nVidia Control Panel that I'm missing?
Good luck getting that 8800, they had to cancel my repair and build a new laptop because they have been out of stock on the cards for the past month.

I don't know how they are going to build a 1730 without an 8800 and expect me to accept it. Not without some cash back that's for sure.

They should just throw in the 9 series card then.
