I got an order number for a 1640 replacment that was promptly canceled.

It seems Dell never checked in my 1710 replacement from last year. I am so glad I kept a record of my tracking numbers. However, they canceled my system exchange and I think I have to start from the begging again.

*sigh*

there is another member here who had the same offer of a XPS 1640 of course we told him it is not a replacement for a M1730, not even close. he just returned his 3rd M730 as the lastest replacement was over heating...Sigh

Considering the status of the M1730 laptops, and the fact they seem to be crap, I would be demanding a AlienWare laptop from Dell at this point.
The only laptop left that Dell sells that could replace the M1730 would be the Precision m6400 (Fully loaded) with the FX3700 GPU
post #70 of 362
Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna bother extending the warranty on my M1710 because of all of this. I'm almost positive Dell would try to say the 1640 is an upgrade and I don't want to have to fight them for months. Way to chase off customers Dell...

Dell doesn't care, as long as they have enough new suckers to replace the disgruntled suckers who actually do stop giving money to them, they can keep their income the same or possibly a bit higher and be none the worse for wear. The only thing one can do to take the wheels off the DELL money machine is to spread the word and explain why DELL doesn't deserve our hard earned monies.

(And until DELL improves its business model, I'll have nothing to do with them either, except to be an impartial moderator of posts for this sub-forum)

Dell does just enough to keep peoples money. 99% of people would be jazed to death to get a NEW 1640 for there old 1730's...

I got a new dispatch number today, I told the supervisor I spoke with that I do a lot of video encoding on my laptop and the 1640 does not support CUDA encoding which drastically reduces my encode times.

We will see where that gets me.

That should work. I tried that same logic getting my video cards, when they tried to tell me the 8600 was better than the 7950gtx and that they wouldn't send me the 8800 because of that. I told them I do a lot of rendering and the 128 bus width wouldn't cut it.

!@#$er's!

Turned on my laptop after coming home from work, and the LCD doesnt come on. I tried reseating the cable, nodda; I called dell and they "troubleshooted' the laptop. They're sending me a new LCD and new video card, another 8600, even though im still waiting on my 8800.

Get used to that wait. From my understanding they are not manufacturing the 8800's anymore. It's why they decided to replace mine.

Woodstock, what's going on with yours?

They replaced your entire system because the 8800's weren't available? Interesting. They told me to call back in 2 days because that's when it was suppose to be out of back order.

Dell is so full of shit.
