External Monitor Problem in Windows 7

Hi,
I have Windows 7 64-bit RC on my laptop and I have also an external monitor (dell xps m1330 and 22" LG W2261V).
In my vista 32-bit (dual-boot) after I plugged the external monitor I had an option to view only in the external monitor, and it works well, even if I open and close and open the laptop's lid the xps screen is shut-down and only the external monitor is on.
BUT in Windows 7 every time I open the laptop's lid the xps screen is turned on and I have to press WIN+P every time, over and over, just to put the view only in the external monitor.

How can I do it for good?

Thanks

Try using the same GPU driver that you used from Vista on W7?

Vista has a older driver... anyway nvidia.com gave me different drivers.

And did these different drivers work?

No...

So let us give the "old" Vista driver a try.

The vista driver is specially for vista. Its also for 32-bit and my Windows 7 is 64-bit. not everything is exchangeable between vista and Windows 7... I can't check it.
Do you have another idea?

Nope. I am looking for some more though.

Any idea?

Nope. And I cannot duplicate on my Sony, using nVidia driver either. Let us hope that some Dell users can give some input on this.

Same thing happens to me in WIn7 (I am on ATI). I don't find it too much of a hassle to be honest as I dual screen the pair of them. Have you tried fn+F4 (or which ever F it is on your notebook) to switch monitors?

My fn+f8 functions just like win+p in Windows 7, it doesn't "remember" the screen settings if I open the lid...
In vista it "remembers". If I open the lid the internal screen remains off.

Odd in windows 7 it should automatically ask you if your using the new external monitor/projecter for presenting and give you an easy to understand option of doubling or extending your screen. Your on the XPS 1330 so im going to assume you have the nvidia card. If you hit up out Nvidia driver section of the forum you should be able to try the absolute latest 19x.xx series drivers to see if thats holding you back.
