What drivers should I install?

I just did a fresh install of Windows 7. Apart from the sound card drivers, I didn't "have to" install any other drivers, but what should I install and for what reason?

Do I need the motherboard chipset drivers? (i9kfangui doesn't seem to be working well at controlling the fans, rmclock can't hold the minimum multiplier on battery...)

Will better wifi drivers save more power?

These are the questions I'm asking myself...so what other drivers should I install and where should I get them? Dell only provides XP drivers for my laptop (Vista ones should work with 7)

It sounds like your set apart from the i9kfangui issues. you can also adjust the CPU speed using win7 power management tool. Yes better wifi drivers typically equal less power drain, better range, better signal retention.

Yea actually the RMclock issue was b/c it was conflicting with the windows settings. Had to set windows to 100% minimum power state, and now rmclock works perfectly. Of course if rmclock isnt' running, the maximum multiplier is always on with this setting.

I'm interested in learning more about what I would need proper chipset drivers for... what do you mean by your comment on i9kfangui?

Fangui i8k or i9k both produce innacurate temperatures and on top of that if you actually use fan control via software then it consumes CPU threads which then produces heat. As for RMclock you have to ensure you set the profile to "Power on Demand" when plugged in and default for battery mode. Under the "Power on Demand" profile make sure you check off every box and play around with the voltages. You can test how well it works with tools like Orthos (reccomended) or Prime. Also make sure to uncheck "auto adjust intermediete VID" under profiles tab.
