Dell Inspiron 1520 keyboard issues?

I succeeded in cleaning out my fan and vents. Woo.

But.. upon completion of it and after replacing all the parts to my computer, I found that.. magically, my keyboard stopped working.

I have this feeling it's due to the small blue 'hinge' that is, I'm guessing, there to connect the prongs to the keyboard ribbon?

I wish it had a stupid pull-tab keyboard connector, instead of 'HEY LETS JUST GLUE THIS HERE, CHEAPPPPERRRRR!!!! AND PLASTIC YAY'

.. Ugh.

So, what can I do to rectify this? I'm not above gluing, buying a new keyboard (though I refuse to pay more than 25.. and I'd prefer 30 or less including the shipping..), taping.. IDK wtf it was connected with to begin with, but it was ****ing sticky and disgusting.

Way to be cheap, Dell.

This makes me hate my own computer. And I built it just for me, so that's pretty sad..

Is the hinge still there ?

If so just try and get the ribbon cable inserted deep enough for the hinge to hold it, it should work.

it may take a few tries, but eventually it should work

I have gotten SOME of the keys to work, but not all of them.

It just seems like it isn't getting a good enough connection, and try as I might I can't seem to make it any better.

The hinge is still there but is now fully removable, because Dell service manuals don't tell you whether parts are actually removable or not, they just say 'REMOVE THIS THING! ' At least, that's what the service manual for 'how to clean your fan' is. D:

I'm bummed.. I go to college and need this computer for it, but if the keyboard is shot idk what there is left to do.

I can press down on the prongs and the hinge my self and it works better than just the hinge, that's why I suspect a bad connection.

I did the same thing on my latop, Had to use a magnifying glass and a very small flat blade to get the clip back in the right position. it was a pain no doubt.

If you still under warranty - call dell tell them your Keyboard is n/s and get a replacement sent to you.

Hey, thanks for the response.

Ended up taking it to the place my stepdad goes for all his computer parts, the guy fixed it in like 2 minutes and didn't charge.

Apparently it needed to be shoved in WAY more, and as I'm not normally a computer-parts person, I was afraid of breaking it and was too gentle. Haha!

Working just fine now.
