travelmate 800 blurry fonts

I recently bought a new hard disk for my travelmate 800. I downloaded all the necessary drivers but seem to have a problem with the radeon vga xp driver. Its version 7.83 which seems to be the latest but the only resolution I can have the screen is 1450 x 1300 or something like that which is hurting my eyes as everything is too small. On lesser resolutions graphics and fonts are blurred. On the display settings it only shows options if you have two monitors. The ATI control panel doesnt do anything either.

My old installation still had the original drivers as far as I know and I never had this problem.

Much appreciated if anyone can help......

Try play around with the DPI settings, leaving the high resolution alone?

Thanks for replying. I've tried that. I've got it set to 125% normal size and it makes things better. Any bigger and it looks a little pixelated.

My taskbar is tiny too.

I'd just like the display as it was before. I've been trying to find the old driver to no avail. Any ideas?

Have you tried Acer Support site? They should have your system driver available.

Did you download VGA driver from ATI/AMD or Acer website? I've had a similar problem on my PC after i've downloaded/installed the latest ATI driver. So, i've uninstalled the newest driver and installed the driver supplied on the VGA card CD and that solved my problems.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.

I havent got the cd unfortunately.

However, after messing around with some appearance settings and rebooting a couple of times everything is fixed! I've no idea what I did exactly but it seems to be the driver doing something funny because it went back to the blurred state once without me touching any display settings and then back to normal again after another reboot!! Its been ok for a day now. We shall see.....

They've got minds of their own these computers......
