Hello all,
This has been troubling me for a while now. As most you know, most laptops have an upgradeable slot for additional RAM, and one buried slot (claimed not upgradeable). The 7510 GX laptop 'specs' said that it can go up to 1.5 GB RAM. I found someone who disagree, and claims to upgrade similar laptops to 2 GB RAM. Check this link:

This begs the following questions:
(1) Is this really true? Is it possible to install and upgrade memory into a "non-upgradeable slot" which is normally buried under the keyboard?
(2) What really limits the maximum RAM a laptop can have? Is it only the operating system? I heard XP 64 bit and Vista can manage 4 GB RAM and up. Or is there a cap on the motherboard and/or processor?
I have the Gateway 7510 GX for years now and I am planning to upgrade. I used my laptop for intensive IDL and C++ programming and occasionally older games it can handle, like command and conquer, and red alert etc.
Please share your thoughts and experiences on this matter. I would really like to settle this matter once and for all. Thanks.
Alvin.
