I need power not graphics!

Ive been searching around for the perfect laptop for me for about 10 hours no and Im having a kind of tough time.

Here's the usage Im looking to get out of this laptop. I want a good battery life so I can easily bring it around the office and home. But I also want to be able to sit down at a desk and play all the high graphics video games.

This is my game plan. Get a laptop with awesome memory and processor and just a simple onboard video card. Then get a ViDock2 so I can hook it up so I can play all my high graphic video games. My logic here is that I can save battery life since Im not going to have the crazy graphics card and when I do want to play those crazy games I can just sit down, plug in the ViDock2 and play them with ease.

Questions I have,

Does DDR3 RAM use more battery then DDR2 RAM?

While Im browsing through the processors some say 35 watt and some say 25 watt, but the 25 watt can show better Ghz and cache then the 35 watt. Does the battery usage depend on the watt or the Ghz of the processor?

------------

Oh and I would like to add that Im looking for around 4+ hours battery life. Im looking to get DDR3 RAM and the P9700 processor but Im not really sure if thats what I should really be getting for the usage Im looking for. Im looking to spend no more then $700-$900 on the laptop then $380(can vary) on the ViDock2. Total budget $1300. So guys, what do you think is the best laptop for me?

DDR3 uses slightly less power than DDR2, but not enough that it would make a noticeable difference in battery life.

CPU power consumption is fairly complicated. A lower wattage TDP tends to be indicative of a CPU consuming less power, but there are a lot of other factors involved.

In general, battery life depends on a number of aspects and tends to be unique to the computer.

For recommendations, I think the Lenovo T400 is worth a look. It's got very good battery life and you can get it within your price range (although not quite with your exact desired specs)

I agree with above on all counts and the T400 or T500 ThinkPads are the first to come to mind. At this point the ViDock not bad but not sure all games highest is realistic. In the future? What is it stuck at now? HD 4670? 3DMark06 like 6500. Just thoughts.

Actually a MacBookPro kinda fits the bill here you get a pretty better than avg Geforce 9600 GT and about 7 hours of battery life (5 hours in Vista/ Win7)

Or you can take a stab at the notebook im using. This baby uses a Geforce 9600/9700 Equiv and runs at about 4-5 hours on a 9 cell and you can double that with a slice battery. This notebook is typically cheaper on either ebay or Dell business Outlet site I got my config for about 1800 but its very high end and you can do a lot better with a P9xxx CPU.
