At the present time I have a Acer 5315 laptop that I upgraded the CPU to a T7500 MHZ processor that supports Intel Virtulazation and is a 64 bit CPU. Can I install a 64 bit version of Windows 7 in 2GHZ memory or will I be able to increase the memory to 4GBs or higher since I will be using a 64-bit version. I ordered the Professional version.

I am using the 64-bit RTM Ultimate version of Windows 7 right now and it is great! With 64-bit the OS will recognize 4GB (and up) of RAM, and checking the CPU usage gadget, I see that I am using just 30% of my 4GB of RAM- and that's with several things open.

I have a extra laptop drive. I could load the 64 bit version of Windows beta and then after it works, I can add two 2GB sticks and see what happens. Do you think this a good idea ? I have ordered two Windows 7 professional edition and if I am successful wit the beta version, then when Oct. 22 rolls around I can install the Windows 7 and am free to go. Your thoughts. Are you using the same laptop I have with windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit operating system ?

I think that it will run just fine on 2GB of RAM, but for future-proofing I would up the RAM to 4GB. Windows 7 is more efficient than Vista- I went from using 30-40% of RAM on start-up with Vista 64-bit, to using 20% with Windows 7 64-bit. (Oh, both of my OS's are the Ultimate Edition)
Since I've just moved I'm using the Dell Studio XPS 16 whose specs are located in my signature below..

64bit is only half the battle you have to make sur eyour chipset wont limit your RAM as ive run into an HP with 4GB of ram installed but only utilized 3.25GB due to chipset.
