Max CPU for A105-S101 with or without PinMod

Hello all,

I came across a free A105-S101 system that a business was literally throwing out and I snagged it and finally had a chance to sit down and open it up. Of course discovering it had a Celeron M 1.6ghz in it. However just like I had done on my M35X-S161 I want to upgrade this via a mod, although with the researching I'm doing I'm not sure what the highest stock CPU is and what the highest modded CPU is for the system to run at 99-100% stability. I want to achieve a system performance boost, but I won't go so bleeding edge that stability is risked.

What is the highest stock Pentium M 7x0 or 7x5 cpu that will work?

What is the highest of those that will work via the pin mod??

Thanks!

Any chance you could give us the motherboard model number? o

It's a Toshiba Part Number: v000068070

It has the ATI IXP 450 chipset with the Radeon Xpress 200M graphics onboard chipset. The CPU it came with was a stock Celeron D 1.6ghz.

Hmmm. I can't find any info with the Ati IXP chipset. I see them being compatible with Intel 845 and 865 chipsets.

And is it a Celeron D or Celeron M??

Intel Celeron (1.7 - 2.8 GHz)
Celeron D (2.13 - 3.2 GHz)

Those are the ranges that should be compatible with the socket Socket 478, which is what the Celeron D houses.

Actually it's a Celeron M 380 (SL8MN). I had to check it to be double sure.

However, I am interested in doing the pin-mod with a Pentium processor as I saw others doing with the A105 series since the prices for those on eBay are insanely cheap. Being that they are all relatively inexpensive, I wanted to know what the highest stock Pentium D Cpu would be support to achieve the highest 2.0+ speeds or pursue the pin-mod to achieve 533mhz bus speeds.

Ah i see. Well wouldn't the 3.2 GHz seem to be the range you are looking for? If the Celeron 380 still uses a Socket 478, along with the Celeron D, the 3.2 Maxes out at that socket.

The ATI IXP 450 chipset supports Processor Front Side Bus800 and 533 MHz.

I know the 2933 Mhz CPU has a FSB of 533. I can't find any info on the 3.2 chip.

Thanks for that info. Alot of the forum posts I had read which dated back to 2006 for the A105 series indicated that many of the Toshibas were somehow capable of 533+ which was only achieved with taking a low end 1.6ghz P D and using the pin-mod. Even then many posts indicated speeds of about 2.2ghz. Though I assume that meant overclocking speed and not maximum stock CPU support...? I have been looking for a stock CPU list for the Xpress 200m / IXP450, though not finding anything official as of yet.

I have the slighter newer version of this guy sitting my closet and even though the BOARD will support 2.2 the cooling solution is very poor and will give you constant loud whirring.

Thanks for that info. Looks like the 2.1-2.2 is the range to seek for. Will doing the pinmod make the cpu only 533 capable or does that make it 800mhz capable as well?

When I checked on the Intel page for listing all of their processors

I'm not finding Pentium D mobile processors. Can someone point me in the direction of which MicroFCPGA Pentium D's are compatible with this motherboard?
