most likely ordering this m17x

yeah yeah, another one of those threads. question guys, why so many people say to get the 3 year warranty? are things prone to breaking on this machines? thanks guys.

I stayed at 260M, the dual options pushed me too far over the edge. Also, figure I can up the RAM later.

Also, should I get the 2x320 RAID 0? What will be my clock speeds if I overclock this? And, how easy to overclock? Apology, overclocking noob.

cool, cool, cool ... Let us see which one of you hot gamers will be giving us a personal review on the machine.

Try using the machine stock first before considering overclocking, you will be nicely surprised by its performance (from what I have heard).

cheers ...

You might want to check out NBF Desktop Reviews/Setup section for input.

Too slow for what? I did see a i7 laptop in maximumpc. This months edition in fact. It's the AVADirect D900F. It was rated within 10% of the highest desktop they have tested.

Sager's new laptop sports the new i7 chip!!

Yea Falcon Northwest also has the i7. i looked into that but the graphics card option is weaker than on the m17X.

I read an article in The Laptop Monthly Magazine and it clearly stated that three year warranties were not worth the investment.

Thanks guys. Well I bit the bullet and ordered an XPS 435 desktop with the Core i7-975 Extreme. I will be interested in Alienware again once their laptops get the i7 architecture, looks like it'll be happening fairly soon.

It's a shame Dell (and the other main companies) don't offer 8-core PC's.
Some of the major brands do offer 8 cores. i know my boss has 2 HP's that have 8 cores. they make rendering big images really fast.

Not laptops though if thats what you meant.

We're a subsidiary of HP and my boss got an 8 core rig from them to test in our work environment. Very nice indeed.

cool deal. this one will have to do, for now. I was only shopping Dell, anyway. I'd guess the next time I'm looking they'll have 8-cores readily available.

dell has an 8 core desktop as well. another person in my office has one.
a 3 year warranty is worth it...if one thing goes out on a laptop it will cost over 300 bucks more than likely... so its worth it....

I priced one out and it's not an everyday thing that's for sure.

yeah, and I wouldn't get it just because it has 8 cores. contrary to what it may seem. LOL
