NP9280 and Older Windows

I'm reaaal close to getting the NP9280. However, being a developer who deals with legacy software, I need to be able to run Windws XP as well as Windows 2003 Server on it (multi-boot config).

I tracked down a thread (http://www.xoticpcforums.com/showthread.php?t=4595) from a guy at XoticPC who claims you can email Sager tech support to get XP drivers but then another guy said he didn't get a response from them (neither did I).

Anyone else able to get XP drivers for the NP9280?

How about Windows 200X drivers? Even for a slightly older Sager?

You should be able to get XP/Win2003Server drivers for most of the devices, directly from the devices manufacturers themselves or via a similar model. Just do not expect to have a fully functioning working comp as it should be.

Make a list of what the devices are at the moment from within Vista.

Make a list of what devices are being needed for your legacy software to run, make a hunt for them before jumping on any new notebooks.

cheers ...

Thanks for your input. I'm used to not having a fully compatible drivers for 2003, I just need to make sure the main components (motherboard, drives, NIC, etc.) won't have serious issues.

I was hoping someone else had done what you suggest: spec each component and go to the manuf. for the driver. Oh well, fun way to blow an afternoon.

I'm still open to hearing from anyone else who has been down this path!

Hi Richard,

The BIOS file for installing Windows XP on the 9280 is too large to attach here. You may email us at cs@pctorque.com for the file. For those of you who already have the file, the instructions for installation are as follows:

Use Nero select BURN IMAGE TO DISC, and change the CD-ROM drive as bootable in the BIOS, so it can boot up from the drive. Before flashing the BIOS, make sure the unit is using ac power to do the BIOS update and not the battery. After updating the BIOS you need to load the setup default in the BIOS under EXIT options. After loading the setup default, check the SATA Mode Selection: [AHCI, RAID] according to your previous setting.

Again, make sure use ac power when you do the BIOS update.

**** FOR THE 9280 MODEL, SAGER DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IF THE BIOS IS UNEXPECTEDLY DEAD OR NOT WORKING AFTER YOU UPDATE THE BIOS BY YOURSELF.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for offering to email the BIOS (check your inbox!) and the tips.
