How HOT is too Hot?

I am concerned about heat and how hot is TOO hot???

I have four Inspiron e1705/9400's running Win XP and have I8kfangui loaded on each of them. Two have T7400 CPU's & the other two have T7200 CPU's and three have Nvidia 7900 GS video cards and the 4th has an FX2500 card. The 9400's all seem to idle around 98 F to 108 F and when working something CPU intensive hover around 120 F to 128 F temps.

I recently (last week) bought an M1710 with a T7200 CPU and a 7900 GS (dual pipe). I did a fresh install of Win XP and also have I8kfangui installed. I also opened up the case and cleaned out the dust bunnies and AS5'd the cpu.

The M1710 seems to run hotter than all of my e1705/9400's. It seems to run around 10 - 20 F higher whether at idle or running something CPU intensive. I am assuming that the M1710 MB simply runs hotter due to being a different board than the e1705/9400?

However, how HOT is Too HOT? What is a recommended running temp range?

Thanks in advance

First you sure it's in F and not C?

If those temps are C, than I would be very concerned

Time for a good cleaning on all of them, and probably suggest some AS5 re-applied on the CPU and GPU

Hey Dave,

Since I live and grew up in the US, I changed the temp reading in I8kfangui to Faranheit instead of Celcius. So, yes, my temps are in Faranheit degrees.

I have opened all my notebooks, cleaned them thoroughly, including the cooling fans, and AS5'd the CPU's. I am using the original thermal pads, which appeared to be in good condition. I am looking on eBay for thermal pads and will probably replace the thermal pads the next time I open up the machines for regular maintenance.

I am thinking about buying a pair of ladies black panty hose to cut up and glue (double sided tape) to the air vent inlets on the bases. I think for what Dell was charging when these machines were new, they should have come with a removable/washable filter. I don't know anyone who drives a car without an air filter, why no filters on these forced-air cooled computers?
