DV8000 Vid Failure

hey, is it possible to buy a new video module for a HP DV8000 17" laptop? Mine took a dump on my, cant get into windows at all, and when its posting there's red lines all over. I can get into safe mode, but thats cause its just a normal VGA driver, but theres still lines all over the screen. Its been a great laptop, and I would hate to not be able to fix her.

Thanks

Try with an external monitor and see if the same thing occurs. If yes, then probably the LCD is failing, cheaper and easier to replace.

And no, if the GPU goes, the mainboard goes with it, no way just to replace it by itself.

Hard to say. Anywhere from USD150-300+

Same problem!!!

Just started a few days ago out of the blue. The machine was off overnight (not hibernating).... I turned it on and immediately saw green specs like shadows in the BIOS POST screen. When it got into Windows, vertical red lines were everywhere and especially in white areas. They are about 1-2 pixels wide. It IS a hardware problem because it shows up in the BIOS POST screen and also in safe mode. Connecting an external LCD display and changing the video output to VGA made the problem disappear so the issue lies in the display itself or some wiring.

About the wiring. I saw a post on a forum somewhere about the nvidia 7800 go that some guy fixed his problem by re-taping some wires down. The only wires these could be are the cable that connects the display to the logic board. Any other ideas??

Thanks for any input!!

You can check and try to replace that LCD cable (mainboard to the back of the LCD itself) first, before thinking about replacing the screen. Good lucks.

I tried to go into VGA, however, in safe mode the FN-f2 or what ever it is, didnt disable the laptop's LCD, tho, the 19" screen I connected it to was on and working, but it also had the artifacts on it

How do I go about ordering a new mobo from HP?

Thanks.

Just call them up, or try eBay, there are some reputable sellers. Or just search on line, typing your model number.
