The F key to activate a re-install...?

Hi,
I need to do a format & reinstall on my Toshiba Tecra A9 (Vista). Now shouldn't it be that at start up the system opens the inserted CDRom automatically? It doesn't. I've done a reinstall before, and remember I used an F key at start up. Can't remember which key, so now I had to try 'm all. But I don't get what I need. In my BIOS I made sure CD/DVD got boot priority. What am I doing wrong, or is possibly something busted up?

Are we talking about a recovery? Try F10 at start up?

My reply didn't come through...again.

Yes, a recovery, but with the CDroms that went with the laptop.
When I press F10 on start, I get a 'Start Option Configuring' field. There's not much more on it but a prompt
NOEXECUTE=OPTIN NOGUIBOOT BOOTLOG

I cannot highlight anything. When I Enter, the pc starts up as usual.

F8, but actually more F keys brings on Windows Start Management, F8 once more shows a list Advanced Start Options, like safe modus, but no Install or Format option.

There was nothing wrong with my CD/DVD station and CD's play without a problem. I'm getting worried now. Any ideas? Is it possible to change a start up feature in msconfig and System Configuration? It's set at Advanced, I saw.

That is strange, you should either:

. start up automatically with the recovery CD or

. go in the advanced boot menu by pressing F8 before Windows starts, then choose "repair my computer", there you can select the Toshiba recovery function.

This is what I get when I start up on F8.

Head: 'To restore your computer'

safe modus
safe modus network
safe modus orderprompt

Activate Logregistration of start up
Activate Video with low resolution
Last known correct configuration
Restore Mode activity directory
Error detector mode
Automatic restart after disabling System Error
Disconnect driver's program signature ratification

Windows normal start up

Below there's an explanation that these are help programs for system's restore, diagnosing or restoring the computer.

For an experiment I clicked Last Known Correct Configuration. The pc then, like in most other modii, simply starts up in Vista...

No, the pc does a regular start up. I also tried Alt F8. Same thing.
