I have been using this for a few months, no problems.

Suddenly today every time I select to play a movie the screen displays a white page with a message saying it cannot connect to the Internet.

A weird problem.

Can anyone explain what is happening??

connect to the internet.

then try launching arcade, then go to settings and check for updates.

Thanks for the suggestion Michelle.

The 8930 is always connected to the Internet, and when I first experienced the problem the first thing I tried was to check for an update, which was found and installed - but the problem continues.

I burned an apps backup dvd when I got the notebook, but Ican't put my hands on it - I think my wife has 'hidden' it

Go to Empowering Technology/eRecovery Management, click Restore, click on Reinstall Applications/Drivers, click Allow, which opens a window marked contents and manuals, click on contents. Acer Arcade is listed, click on install. The wizard will first of all uninstall and then reinstall it. Might work, might not considering the problem u have, but u have nothing to lose by trying.

I removed Acer Arcade and re-installed the original.

It still won't play anything.

If I insert a dvd Arcade launches and then nothing.

If I try to manually load a dvd in Arcade it says I should insert a disc - but the disc is there and Arcade must have seen it as it launched when the disc was inserted.

Very strange as every other programme sees the discs - it's just Arcade that doesn't.

Arcade also plays audio cds no problem - its only DVD where there's an isue.

Having re-installed the original programme - not sure where to go from here!!!

Well that is really weird ! Try uninstalling another way Start all programs Expand Acer Arcade Then click uninstall. I think afterwards u wud have to go back to eRecovery to reinstall again. When it's finished installing click Finish pretty quick otherwise it uninstalls again automatically. Sorry it didn't work. I have the 8930 as well and the Blu-Ray didnt work (just done the demo and that was it) I uninstalled like I said and everything worked OK. I've done it a couple of times. sometimes depending on the update it uninstalls and then reinstalls automatically. Apart from that I can't see any other options.

You coud also give it a scan when u expand it before uninstalling perhaps !

Or scan it after installing (if you have that option ?)

This is weird.

When my problem started I had recently run the automatic update in the player, so was running the latest version.

In the original vesrion I re-installed, in the help section, there is a link given to an acer page at Cyberlink. I went to the page and it installed an activex for checking the status of Arcade, and it notified an update was needed.

I installed the update and it cured the problems.

What can I say?

Anyway, thanks for all your assistance TG.
