Hello, I need to replace my aging laptop. I want to ask your opinion on what should I buy.
Here is what I need:
- sturdy and durable (I need good build quality, this is the most important for me)
- excellent keyboard (very important, I'll be typing a lot)
- intel chipset (not sis!), centrino 2 preferred
- nvidia or ati graphics card (can be low end, but not intel graphics card), preferrably MXM technology so I can upgrade it later
- good quality screen
- decent speakers
- possibility to upgrade to 8gb of ram (not a necessity, but might come in handy)
- good battery lifetime
What I don't care:
- how much RAM it has, since i can always upgrade later
- how fast/big the hard drive is, for the same reason
- just need a dvd burning drive, nothing fancy
The laptop will be used for software development under Linux, so I don't need a gaming rig, but something with fast memory and cpu. I intend to use it for at least 5 years before replacing it, so once again it needs to have really good build quality since accidents tend to happen rather frequently around me.
Also, I'm used to a 15.4", but it is too bulky and heavy for me. Anyone had problems going from 15.4" to 14.1"?
If you have or know some laptop with these characteristics, please share!
Thanks for your opinion!
