8790: CD-RW 24x Burn Speed - How Long Does It Take You To Burn an Audio Disc?

Hi Gang,

I am currently burning a 76 minute audio disc on the 8790's internal CD-RW drive at 24x speed on an 80 minute Imation CD-R.
Is it just me, or is this thing as slow as molasses in Alaska on an icy hill? 7 minutes and 20 seconds have elapsed so far and I'm only at 65% done. The software I am using is the Nero that came bundled and pre-installed on the laptop.
Are your experiences roughly the same? Maybe I'm doing something wrong or have the settings funny (disc-at-once btw)... or maybe this is as good as it gets (please, no)?

Addendum -- Just finished burning.. total time was a depressing 11:31 (about double the time it took my 16x burner in my desktop for the same job...)

Yep sounds about right. I thought it was pretty slow too. I have a desktop here as well with a 24x burner and it is much faster. Really does not bother me a whole bunch, but yes, I did notice it being a bit pokey as well. I use Nero 6. Actually I have only done disc-at-once so far as well. That might have something to do with it, but I seriously doubt it. If you figure out anything, let us know!

Isn't the write speed for this device 16x and not 24x (CD-R). I thought that the 24x was the read speed of the device - that does not mean that it is the "rip speed" if you are copying a music CD-ROM. Also the 16x is the maximum rated speed (Outer part of the CD-R). I think that the nominal speed is only about 8x for CD-R writes.
