LCD Inverter Grounded?

Make a longer story short. The bottom left part of screen has two through bolts holding the hinge to the screen on my dv5000t.

At first the screen died as I closed the screen and discovered it had broke. This pulled out the display cable, the one from the motherboard. After I plugged it back in all was fine, except my screen was half attached.

So... I took apart the screen and through bolted the hinge to the lid, just below the LCD screen. I noticed a film behind the LCD that is attached to the hinges. I also noticed grounding plates on the inverter. Is the foil part of the grounding for the inverter or screen?

I have quadrupled check the connections. The Wifi LED still works, so I figured the ground is working but I don't know if it has it's own source. I am typing from the computer right now as it is hooked up to another screen.

I think its the inverter as there is nothing on the screen but pitch black even with a flashlight. Does anyone know how much voltage is suppose to come out so I can test it with a voltmeter?

I am sure there is something I did to screw it up, but I was delicate and don't understand how the inverter could have died just like that if it was working just fine.

All help is much appreciated, and many thanks in advanced.

I'll check the cabling again just to be sure. Never paid attention to an inverter ground in my life, so I cannot answer you straight on this one. I would also grab another inverter, for me when it's bad, it's bad.

Someone else might have a better idea.

I replaced my screen last year and my new screen came without a inverter bracket,as the old screen had a bracket that the inverter was attached too then it was screwed into the lid, maybe for a ground i dont know, but so far my screen is working fine without that bracket. My inverter is held in place with the two srews that go into the lid to secure it..

Thanks guys for your advice. I bet I screwed up the inverter when I had it apart.

When I get off and onto dry land I will plug in a new one and see what shakes.

Thanks again.

sorry to resurrect this thread, but I am having just about the same exact problem only i have an hp dv6000, and i have just replaced the cable going to the screen.  It's still black, but i can use an external monitor, which I am on right now.  Thank you any updates, or responses.  specifically, is the inverter field testable with a volt meter?

Welcome to NBF. I guess anything can be tested with a voltmeter. The inverter replacement is quite easy and cheap, I'd give it a shot. - make sure that no incoming power is being present
