Notebook Display Question

Hi,

I have HP Pavilion DV2620US and recently, I downgraded it to Windows XP Pro. My issue is with display. I dont know if this is normal. I usualy dont use wallpaper, and I turn the wallpaper off and make the background in pure black. now, i noticed that the screen is not pure black, its something like smokey black in gradient (darker on the top, smokey black at the bottom). On Vista the screen is pure black.

My laptop uses NVidia GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M.

You may have a problem with the drivers or, maybe the resolution is incorrectly set or the color bit depth (or whatever it is called). I don't remember, but I think you can set it to 32/24/16/8 bits or something like that. The higher, the better.

Hi Ericko, Thanks for your response. I set my resolution to 1280 x 800, 32bit. The driver I used is from HP website. Tried to reinstall it and its still the same.

How about you set a picture for desktop to rule out hardware? Then we discuss levels of grayscale and what you want.

Edit: What does resolution have to do with?

I might be wrong, but I read somewhere that if you don't use the native resolution of a monitor, you may experience some issues.

I was just asking him to try with different settings, just to be sure.

I tried to setup a picture, but it looks okay, but when I set all black background, I noticed that the background is not pure black, its like gradient, darker on top, smokey black at the bottom. I am using Laptop computer (HP Pavilion DV2620US with NVidia GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M)

On Vista, the screen with black BG is okay, on XP where I encounter the above issue.
