Hello,

Something is wrong with my Inspiron 1520...
Windows Vista Home Premium
Installed all the Windows Updates
Installed all the AVAST updates

On wednesday night... it was working fine...

The next morning, I started up the laptop and it got hot so fast... It keeps freezing after a couple minutes of use....
I usually run 3-4 CPU heavy usage programs at the same time and I have no problems at all.
Now I can only run 1-2 programs with medium to high CPU usage...so that it wont freeze right away...

This has happened while I was writing this thread...

I only have IE, AVAST, and SpeedFan running....
The CPU temperature ranges from 50-80C
Normally...it's 20 to 36c for me...

I have to restart the computer manually and it galways goes to the error checking options screen at the beginning of the restart.
I tried system restore
I tried uninstalling a bunch of programs that may had to do with adware, malware, etc.
I even installed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it even found twelve...which I deleted.
I even left it alone to cool down and it only lasted a bit longer than twenty minutes...
When I run itunes...the songs or podcasts stop after a couple of minutes...
Sometimes before it freezes... soundcard driver disappears and explorer and other things close down...

What do I have to do to make my computer run normal again?

Is there something better than clean format?

Take a pressurized canned air to the vents first. And can you restore (point) the comp to pre-Wed day?

cheers ...

The temps are a concern...as stated above cleaning the fans out is probably required, but if the compressed air does not solve it enough, opening up the laptop and removing the fans to clean them out is required...and usually the best thing to do.

Hopefully addressing the temp issues will solve your other problems as they seem to be related.

If not, a clean install maybe the best option.
