Upgrading my e1705

Need some suggestions, seems Dell isn't what it used to be. I got on to look around and noticed that you can't even select a video card on the inspiron models anymore.

This is what I have:

e1705
17" 1920x1200
Geforce 7950GTX
4Gb DDR2 667
320GB 7200RPM hard drive
2.33 T7600

The new laptop must exceed the CPU and graphics card of my previous laptop. It does not need to have a bigger/better hdd, more RAM but it does at least have to have a 17" 1920x1200 LCD.

What are my options?

I would say an Outlet M6300 or a new m6400 Precision line is all Dell has left that packs any kind of GPU and CPU power.

They pretty much have moved the gaming line over to Alienware now.

he FX3700 GPU is a great one, and have not heard any issues with it myself.

Even the base model with the FX2700 GPU scores over 10K with 3DMark06

Otherwise I think AW or Sager have the edge now

Last option I would also consider and the price is excellant is the gateway 17 inch laptop which are sold through Best Buy.

Typically less than $1200, they offer a decent set of options for a laptop

Best I could find have 2700M in the 6400s and one 3600M in a 6300.

Yes that sounds about right,

the M6400 has a FX2700 or FX3700 option

The M6300 had the FX3600 which benchmarks about the same as the FX2700 in the M6400

Outlet XPS m1730s are still a great buy considering the GPU horse power in them.
