Alienware M17x media bar problem...?

Alright so my media bar doesn't work, my computers like 2 days old...it worked when I first got it but now it doesn't work and I can adjust my sound, eject a disk, turn wireless on or off, get Alien command center or stealth mode. Anyone know a fix for this?

go to system restore and back date the computer to when you received it and the sound bar worked and see if it fixes your problem....

Found this through Googling, and have a few things to mention.

If this is the same problem as mine, the media bar is not lit up, and none of the buttons seem to work. Additionally, the SCROLL, CAPS, and NUM icons do not light up when I enable their respective...things. Locks.

Additionally, the built-in camera ( 2.0 Megapixels. :U ) doesn't seem to work. I ran CyberLink and it just couldn't detect it.

Any suggestions that don't involve wiping out everything I've done so far?

a system restore under accessories doesnt wipe your computer you can back date it to when you received it...your programs will still be there....if you dont see your programs there and stuff has changed then you can change it back to the present date...you can also find the driver that controls the media bar and make sure the old driver is deleted and reinstall it...

My mistake. I was thinking of AlienRespawn.

EDIT: Attempted to restore, restore points only date back to about a week ago. I don't remember changing systems or anything, so I don't know why this is. I then tried to restore from the oldest point possible, and got an error message upon restarting, in place of the usual "Restore has successfully restored the...restorable."

Press Fn+F11 and see it anything lights up. It appears that the Command Center is corrupt or missing.

Sorry about the delay in the reply. Pressing Fn+f11 once turns off all the lighting. Pressing it again reverts it to what it was originally. Id est, without the media bar lit.

i had the same problem, media bar and camera not working.

try shutting down, unplugging the power cord, and taking out the battery for 10 seconds, then put the battery back in and plug the power cord in and start up. Everything went back to normal for me.

Interesting work-around/fix. But as long as it works

Did you contact AW and if they said anything about it?

cheers ...

i tried contacting them, but it turned out to be a huge hassle trying to get in touch with someone. also, if what i suggestede earlier doesnt work, when you have the option to go into your BIOS on startup, hit F2 to load it up, then F9 to restore sytem defaults. that might work too.

As it was explained to me. If you aren't getting Cam and media bar at the same time then the power off/remove battery/cycle power should work. This is because the media bar is considered a USB device along with the cam. Dell claims that this happens occasionally and the above mentioned steps are Dell's "fix".
