remote question

Out of curiousity, what does the remote use to communicate with the computer? My IR is turned off because of the beeping noise, and the TV tuner is not even installed.

It uses the infrared port.

I was wondering about that. I knew the remote was IR because the bulb blinks when I see it through the computer's camera. (A little trick I learned when working at a TV/VCR repair shop.) It confused me because pointing it directly at the port sometimes does not work as well as pointing it at the screen. I have no idea why. I can even put the remote on top of the keyboard and it still work. The remote's penchant for not obeying the "line of sight" rule confused me.

Anyway, if you put a book in front of the IR port, the TV can't be turned on. Therefore, it works via the IR port. Too bad the remote isn't RF/bluetooth...

But how can it work with the IR port disabled? Also, I can put a book infront of it and have it still work. Also the range is way more than the wimpy IR port should be able to handle, I can work it from all the way across the room whereas IR devices definatley have to be in the line of sight and quite close (not to mention they don't work since the IR is disabled)

The IR is divided into 2 parts. One for data and one for the TV remote. When you disable the IR in Device Manager it only disables the data port and not the TV port. Not sure if there is a way to disable the TV part or not.
