HP ZD7000 series laptop -- will not pass initial boot screen after AC Jack Repair

Thread Starter
I am trying to repair a ZD7000 series laptop. The initial problem was that it had a broken AC Jack. I got a new AC jack and soldered that in. While I was at it, I also got a 3.2GHz P4 out of another laptop to replace the one that was in this laptop.

Now the laptop does not pass the boot screen. It will just display the HP splash page, then reboot. No BIOS beeps. It does this on both AC power and battery.

I have tried different ram as well, with no luck.

Any ideas?

Hello I have a laptop that I had just bought in Feb.2011 and it will not load to my home screen! it is a Compaq HP I cannot find the model # as I do not know where it is located to get it. The laptop was working fine this morning and now wont work. I go to school online and need this fixed in order to do my work. I have tried everything that I know that I could possible do. It will come on and if I press the esc. key to go to the system menu then press F11 it will take me to the load screen then the windows screen but thats it no icons nothing and if I do not do anything and let it load on its own the screen just stays black. please help me you can either email me @ Nevaehsmommy111303@yahoo.com please help asap!!

The model number should be at the bottom of your notebook. What have you tried so far to try to make it work? Noises, lights when you tried to start it?

Try removing rams and hard drive, then re-seat them. Good luck
