E1705 comparable replacement?

Thread Starter
OK, my laptop gfx card (7900 GS) died again for the 4th time. i know it is common for this card but enough is enough. i have had an 3 yr extended in-home warranty so it was replaced this morning and is fine now. my warranty expires in about 2 months and im pretty fed up w/ my card blowing up every few months so i plan on calling DELL back and complain until they give me a replacement laptop. can someone give me an idea of what i should try to ask for/demand as a comparable performing replacement? i've read some nice replacement stories on here but also some not so happy ones...so i definitely want to be prepared to make sure i am not downgrading. thanks!

people have recived anything from a Studio to a XPS m1730. really comes down to the rep you are dealing with.

The Studio and XPS Studio laptops may have faster CPU's memory Etc, but lack in the GPU bandwidth specs. The over all speed may equate to a suitable replacement really depends on your use of the laptop.

Also the decision to replace or repair is up to Dell.

You do risk getting a lessor laptop. and as you already seen from the posts here Dell has gotten tougher on thier repalcements.

IMO nothing dell has now replaces your E1705 except for a M1710 or M1730 which both are no longer produced by Dell, but maybe available via refurb.

If you plan on keeping any dell laptop any longer i would consider extending the warranty you have now if still an option.
