There's a new netbook coming out with a $200 dock. Gigabyte Booktop M1022

We don't need docks. Docks are a step backwards.

What is better and what should have happened is for displayport to have usb2 integrated from the beginning. Then the monitor functions as the dock for any laptop. From monitor there would be speaker output (displayport audio channel). From usb ports on monitor, people can connect: keyboard, laptop, hdd, printer, etc.

The dock has advantage over displayport of only requiring 1 connection whereas displayport setup would require 2 connections (displayport cable, power cable). But the universal nature of displayport outweighs the inconvenience of connecting 2 cables or having to pay $200 for a proprietary dock.

usb2 support for displayport was announced, but is mia.
