i am attempting to replace the CMOS battery in my presario; however, i can't seem to find it. i have tried to search for the service manual for this model but could not find it. i looked at the service manual for the C300 series and it indicated that the CMOS was under the memory module, but it isnt in the same place in mine. any help is greatly appreciated!!

ok, i looked at it and it is the service model for the C300 series...the site says it can be used for the C500 but i already looked where it says the CMOS should be and it isn't there.

its funny its so hard to find, but it only cost $4 to replace

So it is not under the memory or the wifi card bay/slot?

it isnt under the memory card. where is the wifi card?

You probably don't have one, but look around if you have an empty bay somewhere.

Also look at 5-47 (chapter/page), there is a pic there with a foot print of the CMOS battery next to it. Maybe that is where it is being situated.

This thread is old but thought I'd would share this. You don't have to take the whole computer apart... Just take the Memory Cover off theres a chip there with 2 wires coming from it just remove the 2 little screws and the cmos battery is located underneath that... Just an FYI... Jp

Blah, how did I miss a C500 post? XD

Anyway, yeah, just remove the wireless card after removing the memory cover. Additional bit of info: It's a standard C2032/CR2032 watch battery, same as most desktop boards.

Gone (for the most part) are the days of proprietary CMOS battery connections, thank god.

Hi there, I was looking for the location of this CMOS battery in the Compaq Presario C500 but this information was hard to get. Unbelivable!!, but thanks to you response I was able to replaced it. I just removed those 2 small screws from the memory cover, the Wi-FI card was next to the memory chips, I removed the WI-FI card (there are 2 small screws retaining the card), put it aside with the 2 wires still connected, and the CMOS battery was there. I removed it carefully and replaced with the new one, put the Wi-Fi card back and put back the screws, closed the memory cover and all done!

Glad to hear you got it figured out! Yea it's funny it's a cheap replacement but a pain to find if you never done it b4 lol!
