acer Netbook no volume

My nearly-new Acer One Netbook had fairly low volume from the speakers when new. Now it is barely audible. The headphone jack delivers full volume. Control panel and the on-screen indicator show full volume. Any ideas?

Don't know, but you can try open a media file and cranking it up within the app (WMP, VLC or whatever).

It doesn't matter what the source of the audio is. Headphone jack gets full volume, speakers are barely audible.

Is there a chance of a restore point? Or try un-installing and re-installing audio device/driver?

re-instal audio device driver?

Would I do that from the eRecovery utility, or if not, what is the proceedure? It doesn't seem like it's a driver issue, though, what with the earphone volume working fine.

You mentioned that it worked before. This drives me to believe that maybe an update or an installation of a new app somehow screwed it up.

Re-installing the driver . . .

OK, assuming that might be the issue, what is the most expedient way of re-installing the driver, or is there a better one for the Acer One 8.9" Netbook that I can download?

I would stick with the original driver first since it worked out of the box. Download it from Acer Support Site then remove the current cleanly from your system, and re-apply the driver.

I finally got to talk to somebody at Acer Tech Support, not an easy thing to do. As soon as I explained the situation, the guy told me to send it back and they would replace it. He said it was a hardware failure.

Nice. Let us know how it turns out for you at/after the repair.

Acer Tech Support was great. They said send it back and they'll just replace it. Then the day before I sent it back I was going to format the drive and there was a total HD failure. So I called them again to add this info to the return ticket. The replacement will arrive a few days after we leave on the trip for which we bought the computer, so I went down to Office Max and bought another new one at nearly twice what I had paid for the original online. When we get back from our trip, I'll sell the replacement (now out of warranty) on eBay. It was all very expensive, I'll NEVER buy another refurb computer, I learned that Acer Tech Support is great, and it's all good.

Thanks for all the input, everybody!
