Actually, I don't think I know even that many people who would be that interested in an OS launch

Right! So I received an official e-mail from MS Germany confirming that I am one of the hosts for W7 Launch Party. A suggested "how-to host" video is being made avaialble, the package will be arriving shortly.

It sure is interesting to read and review the "suggested" script for the party. Can't wait to see the package and what are being included.

All hosts will receive:

* One limited Signature Edition Windows® 7 Ultimate
* One Deck of Playing Cards with Windows® 7 Desktop Design
* One Puzzle with Windows® 7 Desktop Design
* One Poster with Windows® 7 Desktop Design
* Ten Tote Bags with Windows® 7 Desktop Design for hosts and guests
* One table top centerpiece for decoration
* One package of Windows® 7 napkins

Also included in USA party packs:

* One package of streamers for decoration
* One package of balloons for decoration

my guess would be export hassles for the fireworks and balloons are why those two in particular are only US

I read that from the general description, but a friend of mine, working for MS in Germany, mentioned that the package will be more than what are being listed for US hosts

I am currently opting for the "setup makes easy" theme.

Win7 Security gets Ultimate Test

"Over the next four years, Australia's New South Wales region will be dolling out 240,000 Lenovo laptops. The goal is to give every high school student a computer by 2012 -- and protecting that many computers has become a matter of top priority.

Machines Use RFID and Tracking

The machines will be equipped with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office, and thanks to bulk pricing, will cost no more than $500 each...."

Full article here!

Would this be good for USA to do the same thing for the school kids?

I've got a free upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista 64-bit... Im scared to upgrade...

so far, apart from the webcam, everything is working nicely on my 7811FX, going on Vista 64Bits to W7 RC (clean install) 64bits.

So I expect that once the disk arrives from Amazon, it should not have any issues left.

I did make a disk clone before hand, just in case.

I'm keeping XP on my notebook, but i have a free upgrade on my desktop. I have things running very nicely right now... I need someone to convince me the upgrade is worth it before I attempt it.

I would not say that the upgrade to W7 is worth it. It is a much better OS than Vista from the beginning for sure, but then Vista for me is a good performer since after SP2.

Unless there is any specific requirements that one must go back to XP, any new machines should just be left alone with either Vista or W7 installed.

That's good to know. I'm also gonna benchmark the **** outta my Desktop in games to see the difference in OS. See if there is a difference.
