Hi guys,
My Inspiron 9300 was stolen last week and the insurance company has offered to replace it "like-for-like" with a Vostro 1720.
My Inspiron (which I bought in October 2005) specs were something like this:
Windows XP
1.86Ghz Pentium M
17" WUXGA
2GB DDR2 533 Mhz
80GB 7200 rpm
256MB nVidia 6800 GeForce Go
Bluetooth
Cost: £1,290
The laptop that they've offered:
Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1
2048MB 800 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
512 MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 9600M GS Graphic Card
250GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor
Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Tray Load Drive including Software
Dell Wireless 1397 Mini Card (802.11 b/g)
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth 2.0 Module for Windows Vista
Primary 6-cell 56 WHr Lithium Ion battery
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5870 (2.0 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB)
17.0 inch Premium WUXGA TrueLife LCD
The specs seem an improvement in terms of hard drive and graphics card. Is this correct? Will it perform to the same levels as my old Inspiron 9300?
My main problem is how ugly the Vostro is compared to the Inspiron. Plus, if I go to the Dell website the total comes to around £500-£550 which is £700-800 less than what I paid. Granted it was 4 years ago, but I don't feel I am getting an equal replacement.
What do you think?
