How about taking parts (drive, ram etc ...) from the M1710 and install them onto the M6300 machine?

cheers ...

I would invest some extra $50 and get a top and bottom covers for this M6300 motherboard, then move the parts over as mentioned above.

Form wise it looks the same but the M6300 has an extra output on the back side, I think.

cheers ...

it will not work, there close, but different layout, you would require the base, inverter, Video cable, Hindges, bezels etc

You can take the Hard drive and memory from the M1710.

I would just sell the m1710 and buy the M6300.

Well according to Dave this won't work but I have both machines and I always figured this would work. The only things I know so far is that: The 7950 GTX fits just fine on the M6300 mobo. Also, the M6300 mobo has no connector for a subwoofer.

I will be taking both machines apart next week so I can do a side by side.

from what I saw ZZ the board layout do not match up, Screw holes are different,

It is close, but maybe just enough difference to make it not worth while.

I do know the GPUs fit though, same form factor there

Yes you can, one year ago I have successfully converted my M90 in M6300.
Unfortunately the system board isn't the only component that you must exchange.

You need:
  • M6300 System Board
  • M6300 HeatSink (1710/m90 heatsink not compatible)
  • M6300 Bottom case/plastic (1710/m90 not compatible)
  • A Socket P cpu (T7x00, T9x00, X9000, ...ect)
  • M6300 Palmrest. Here you can recycle the 1710's one but it is only partially compatible and you will have difficulty in closing the notebook if you not use the M6300 Palmrest
All other components are compatible.
My FX2500M (7900M GTX) is working on M6300 but there is a software problem (you must use only forceware driver before release 100.x).

Please read here:

But now you have a M6300 and off course if you want you can buy and install FX 3600M with no problems

I followed your list and went to ebay and bought the SB, heatsink, bottomcase and palmrest, plus a Core Duo 2 T9400. Later I saw that this cpu has a FSB of 1066Mhz and the M6300 has a FSB of 800Mhz. Will this be a problem ? I also read a lot of places, that Socket P compatible cpus have the capability to throttle the FSB speed.

PS!
You are of course, not responsible for my lack of attention when buying things on Ebay.

T9400 is a CPU for M6400 not for M6300
For M6300 you must purchase T9300, T9500 or X9000

The socket of M6400 is always Socket P so theoretically a M6400's cpu should be able to work on M6300 (albeit more slowly because of the slower FSB, 800MHz instead of 1066MHz).
But I can not confirm it because I've never experienced firsthand.
It was my intention to try (eventually) to install a QX9300 (M6400's QuadCore Socket P cpu) in a M6300, but so far I have not done it

I am still waiting for the MB. Bought it 120209, shipped same day by seller but USPS sat on it until the 26. Hopefully I'll have it by the end of this week, and can test it myself.
