Interested in what the XGP will be really capable of? Netbook with a video card dock sounds interesting.

Acer, one of the world's largest computer manufacturers and sponsor of Formula 1 team Ferrari, has shown off the latest notebook equipped with the official Cavallino Rampante seal of approval.

Somewhat surprisingly, the system, dubbed the Ferrari One, isn't as extreme as say an ASUS Lamborghini. Instead, the Acer Ferrari One takes on a netbook-like ultra-portable form factor with an 11.6in display that provides a 1,366x768 resolution.

What's interesting is that the Ferrari One isn't your typical Intel Atom-powered machine. It's an all AMD affair, and we're not talking about the hopeful-but-ultimately-disappointing Yukon platform, either.

Inside the Ferrari One is AMD's Yukon successor, Congo, comprising of a 1.2GHz dual-core Athlon X2 L310 processor, AMD's RS780M chipset and SB710 southbridge. The chipset brings with it integrated Radeon HD 3200-series graphics, providing a marked improvement when compared to the single-core processor and Radeon X1250-class graphics found in Yukon.

Users will be treated to a six-cell battery, Wireless N and Bluetooth connectivity, and Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system. Oh, and to the dismay of those who like a clean, clutter-free design, you'll also find one of those new AMD Vision stickers.

Given the choice of software, Acer's Ferrari One lands on October 22nd and is said to be priced at €499.

So the Europeans will get them first? Cool. Ferrari fans now have some thing to look forward to. I am very tempted to look into replacing my old 12" with this one.

More horse power for US $199

We already wrote a bunch of details about Acer's racing-red Ferrari One, and the fact that it has the proprietary XGP port certainly sounded like an interesting fact. According to the post over at Asian CNET, the DynaVivid dock, how Acer calls it, will feature ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 GPU. (The Fud-squad wishes to congratulate AMD on securing its second XGP design win in as many years. sub.ed.)

The mentioned GPU gives Acer external graphics at an affordable price and should provide enough GPU power for some applications. This, of course, won't be enough to run Crysis at the highest possible settings but will allow for some decent, casual gaming.

The DynaVivid dock can push out 2048x1536 resolution on an external display via HDMI and VGA output and has six USB 2.0 ports as well. It has an external power adapter so don't count on using it on the road. The dimensions of Acer's DynaVivid dock are 193.5 x 193.5 x 32.8mm and it weighs around 0.65kg.

According to the same post, the DynaVivid dock should be available sometime in November with a US $199 price tag.

Wonder if we can get this dock to work with other brands/models? I am looking to replace my VTBook Village card.

Finally it appears that North America will be able to get their hands on it. The Ferrari will be released around January.

There will be at least 2 SKU's for the States, and 1 for Canada

An interesting read qhn. There are so many choices available now that it's hard to decide on which one to get.
