New Optical Drive Not Recognized

New optical drive replaced in a Satellite 5205-S503. The previous drive was recognized, powered up, but recently played nothing. I replaced it with another TEAC DW-224E. This drive powers up when I place a CD in it, but is not being recognized. I did not think I needed drivers because I am using Windows XP Pro. Because it is clearly powering up and spinning a disc, I am assuming that it has been connected properly internally.

The original drive had a T1 suffix (DW-@@$E-T1), the replacement drive is a RFO.

I have googled for a replacement driver, but nothing seems clear. The TEAC site says it is a Toshiba firmware situation.

What do I need to do so my computer will see the new hardware?

TEAC should offer some utility to make the drive "Master". Ifnot you need for some drives that come out factory being set as "master" for your Toshiba notebook to recognize it.

You pretty much have to buy any optical drive preset to Master as its near impossible to change via firmware. All Toshibas need their optical drive replacements tobe preset to Master

If I was to buy another TEAC, how do I know if it is set for MASTER? How does the seller know that? I see many of these on Ebay, but am confused with this situation.

Can you get some product info of this TEAC drive from the support site? This should tell you how it is being set up.
